We've had a bad year with our animal friends. We've lost Bailey and Bella to terminal illness. There was a coop attack where a predator snuck in before we had locked up for the night and killed a hen, injured another and Daisy was also caught in the fray. Daisy and the hen survived, but the hen was left with a permanent limp.
Our rescue cat Smokey escaped for a couple days then returned with a hacking cough. Before we could figure that out, he shared it with our other cat Cissy. Our vet bill has been off the charts this year.
We also had a violent rooster who decided to start killing the hens under his watch, a decision that doomed his fate as well.
A small batch of eggs were placed in the incubator to replace the birds lost and we had a nice hatch, netting 4 girls and a boy. Including this little one.
As an incubator baby, she could not be sent off with her mother hen for comfort. She demanded special treatment and she got it.
Celine is two months old today. She has taught us a lot in her short time here, and for that, we are thankful.
