Bob had wry neck. A progressive muscle disease that causes the neck to constrict and eventually, in severe cases, it will twist around like a corkscrew. And that is bad because what eventually kills these birds (it is usually fatal) is that they can't feed themselves and they die of starvation. It's hard to eat when your head is upside down!
More research and I found that there could be a vitamin deficiency that causes wry neck. Selenium and Thiamine (B1) are suspected as the culprits. For some reason, Bob wasn't metabolizing the nutrients he needed and things were looking bleak for his future.
worked on eating and walking. While his brothers were learning to crow, Bob squawked. Instead of practicing how to fit into chicken society, Bob hung out and helped Farmer Tom work on projects.
Tune in to see Bob and the rest of the gang at www.facebook.com/thepocketfarmer. Hope to see you there!
