I am thankful for my husband and our family. I am thankful for our home and our jobs. I am thankful for the people and animals who share our lives. I am thankful that we have enough.
If I sit still right this moment, I notice that I have a cat sleeping soundly at my side. I hear a pig outside nudging at the door reminding me that it is time for breakfast. There is the sound of a cricket somewhere and the soft whirring of a ceiling fan. I have just enjoyed a cup of coffee with slightly too much creamer, but I like it that way. I had a restful night's sleep.
Just this second the first raindrops have hit the roof and I imagine the plants outside soaking up the moisture. I remember that I spent time last evening cleaning and vacuuming my car and how nice that will feel on my drive into work this morning. I have a full list of things to accomplish this workday, but I feel refreshed and ready for the challenge.
It is the end of the week and a brand new weekend awaits us. Still more work to be done, but at a more relaxed pace. We are in planning phase for the next project and this is my favorite time as it fosters an epic battle: The Creative vs The Practical and some form of hybrid will result. After that, something will exist that was born from our hearts and minds and hard work. Something that will be here when we are gone and will represent a small part of who we are. A very satisfying process.
Already I feel better. I hope I haven't somehow reverse jinxed anything, because there is still a very serious matter that weighs heavy on our hearts and that I pray will be handled with grace. But also I am reminded of the Prayer for Serenity:
God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
