And yet, the rats in particular, have somehow thrived this year and grown bolder. Before I screwed down the lid, each day I'd find that they had tossed free, the lid on the dog feeder, to gain access to the food. They have knocked over my plantings. They are eating voracious amounts of chicken feed, direct from the feeders during the day, and cleaning up the scraps at night. They have created such a network of tunnels and caves as to make the ground look like swiss cheese. It has hit critical mass and we are waging war. We have an invasion.
- 12 rats

- 3 raccoons
- 1 oppossum
- 1 cat

Since I am no longer actively working our breed line, I will be combining our flocks into one large group which will be housed together in a new coop configuration. This will allow us to concentrate our traps in one central location and keep the rodents under control. That is our plan, but for right now we are practicing trap and remove. It is working. We will prevail.
Next year, the Chinese calendar will be celebrating the Year of the Dog. I'm looking forward to it.
